Since releasing their debut full-length, I Found Myself Asleep, three years ago on the Deep Elm Label, Columbus’ She Bears have shed several members, but the lessening of their personnel has done little to the cumulative heft of their output. Their most recent release, a three-song EP titled We Claimed to Be Statues released by We Want Action, shows a taut balance between melodic hooks and sonic overdrive not unlike luminaries like, say, Built to Spill. The EP is reportedly an introduction to an album forthcoming this year.
The She Bears are be making the trip from the Heart of It All to play with The Sewing Machine War, a band formed in Warren, Ohio, but who now, according to their Facebook page, call Brooklyn home. Having released just an EP in 2009, the group is overdue for another record, especially given the quality of the first one.
The bands will be at the Cake Shop tonight. Check out a song from each below.
